Follow up on Swine Flu or whatever you want to call it, Incubation Period
The WHO (World Health Organization) hasn’t followed President Obama’s renaming of the swine flu that is what they still call it. They announced yesterday that the flu will run a course of 2 years and will infect over 2 billion people or about 1/3 of the world’s population.
They also announced that the incubation period is 5 to 7 days and that many people will have the flu and not even know it because their case will be so mild. New cases were announced in Argentina and Brazil. Mexico has now reopened schools, but children were checked for flu symptoms as they entered school and some were sent home as they showed indications of flu with instructions that they had to have a written note from a doctor that they no longer had the flu.
U.S. health officials are no longer recommending that schools close because of suspected swine flu cases since the virus has turned out to be milder than initially feared. But many U.S. schools have done so anyway, including the school of a Texas teacher who died.
The best defense is wash your hands, cover your mouth with a handkerchief or Kleenex when coughing and if you run a fever stay home. If you travel on an air line, you might want to use a face mask — so people look at you like you’re crazy — so better safe than sick.
