ANOTHER NEW SCAM; EMAIL SCAMS,
I’ve been receiving some really interesting emails lately.
Anyone who falls for an email from United Nations Assisted Program — English must not be their first language as the first paragraph tells you are being compensated 2.8 million dollars but never says why and asks for your AMT pin number.
The next one was labeled STRICTLY PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL. Wants you open the attached document. That they are a poor family in need of help.
Don’t open any attached documents if you don’t know the sender for one SIMPLE reason — a virus can be opened and infect your computer. I didn’t open it but my virus scanner told me that there was a virus.
Then there are the phishing ones from various banks, asking you to update your account information. A BANK WILL NEVER SEND AN EMAIL ASKING YOU TO UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION. If you receive a telephone call from the bank, asking you to verify something. Ask for a name and tell them you will call them back, then call your bank and check it out.
When I get an email from a foreign country, telling me that I’ve won a lottery, or I’m getting compensation, I forward the email to scam.gov and let my tax paper dollars work and let them investigate the email and take them down.
The one I loved best, was the phone call telling me that my name had crossed his desk and that I had $25,000 to invest and he would help me invest it. I laughed and said, if I had $25,000 to invest I would be taking a cruse, and hung up.
